Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

Tourista!

A full day !! To Murano to see the fabulous 7th C Romanesque church of saints Maria and Donato.  My very favorite mosaic floor ever .   Also looked at the glass museum and glass blowing and glass shops and shopped a bit.  Then to Burano and the lace which I love -watched 2 unbelievable tiny ladies with tiny needles making unbelievable art.
Skipped Torcello.
Did what we have never done in all our visits -a gondola ride.  (Too expensive ).  Angelo our gondolier looked 30 but insisted he was 59.  His secret: he grew up on an outer island and ate only fish and water.  He learned to row in races as a kid -says these boats need to be repainted at least once a year with their 7 shiny black coats.. And the bottom more often. They are made of many different kinds of wood -239 different pieces-- and are works of art.   It was quite fun in the back rios.  And so here is miss selfie with that Aqua thing in her hand.   Quite like the frame of the bridge.
Great dinner of black spaghetti( made with squid ink) with octopus on our way back..  Then had to charge the phone... And now to sleep!  Whew.

OK I changed the photo and made a collage ......my favorite 11th C floor and the gondola pix of all.....
