Soft Rain on the Iris

It is raining. Soft, steady, fresh, Northwest rain. The kind that makes your day feel cozy and sweet. Rain. Not just overcast gray. But rain.

I went out this morning with my camera safe in its little raincoat, a wise purchase of a few years ago, given that I live in rain country. I wasn't so well covered but I am waterproof. I wandered around the yard taking pictures of flowers and grass laden with water drops. This is a beautiful yellow and pale blue violet iris that grows beneath our dwarf maple tree. It is way past its prime. But with water on its petals it becomes a magical thing. And the drops are windows into the world nearby. Take a look at the large version.
