Who is Sylvia...

It was a beautiful day today. Robert10 was keen to give his new car a spin so we ended up in Heptonstall. This ancient hilltop weaving settlement was the scene of a siege and battle during the Civil War. In addition to the Victorian Gothic church there is, in the same grounds, a ruined 12th century church, damaged by a gale in the 19th century. There is also an octagonal Methodist church, the oldest still in use in the world. The foundation stone was laid by John Wesley in 1764. A truly historic village, the heart of which has little changed for 200 years.
In the new churchyard is the grave of American novelist, poet and short story writer Sylvia Plath, first wife of Poet Laureate Ted Hughes. Tragically she took her own life, aged 30, leaving two children.
