Memorial to General Sikorski at the Rubens Hotel

General Sikorski was the the Prime Minister of the Polish Government in exile in London, after the fall of Poland in 1939 and the fall of Poland in 1940.

The Rubens Hotel near Buckingham Palace was the Headquarters of the Free Poles.  It had been built in 1912.  General de Gaulle leader of the Free French also stayed there during the War.

Sikorski died in an air crash at Gibraltar after he had been inspecting Free Polish Forces in the Near East.  There has been much controversy and conspiracy theories about the crash for which there is no hard evidence whatsoever.
