Tromso

An early start on the road at 5.30. Gatwick - Oslo. Two hour layover. Oslo - Tromso. Bright warm sun in Oslo. Weather closed in as we crossed into the Arctic Circle. A last minute plunge through the thick cloud to bang down at Tromso - further north in the Arctic Circle than nearly all of Alaska.

Wet, cold, lowering sky. Snow covered hills. Bigs piles of rotting snow everywhere. But thrilling nevertheless. Forecast is rubbish but we've got a harbourside room with views of the shipping passing. And a bottle of duty free Brandy. And snow studs on the rental car tyres. Adventures tomorrow for me while The Principal examines a PhD upgrade at this the most northern university in the world.
