MonoMonday: Air

In our house, where basketball reigns, “Air” means Air Jordan sneakers.  In 1984 after winning a national title with the University of North Carolina and a gold medal in the Olympic games, Michael Jordan was selected 3rd overall in the NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls.  That year Nike also signed him to 2.5 million dollar 5 year endorsement contract (plus royalties)!  In 1985 Nike gave Jordan his own signature line of sneakers.  The first Air Jordan, the Jordan 1s, featured the Nike swoosh on the mid panel and the newly designed “wings” logo on the upper ankle.  The Air Jordan 1 paved the way for colorful basketball sneakers and changed the way the public looked at athletic shoes.  The originals were designed in black, white and red (the Bulls colors) and Michael was fined $5,000 per game for wearing them because of rules by the NBA regarding colors.  Nike gladly footed that bill as the fines created even more buzz than ever about the shoes!   As you can see, they are very popular with Logan and Ben and these are only a few of the ones they own.

No connection to the Earth Element Air, but that would be a difficult picture on a cool cloudy day.

Also hoping that fellow blipper Subjunctive had a successful or at least tolerable run in the Boston Marathon today.  Many thanks to notowennewitt for hosting MM this week and this month.
