Season opened

Heard the first cuckoo today and the dandelions are now beginning to show their heads and will shortly transform the countryside.They are the main source of honey in this area. The "summer bloom" (May/June) harvest is a lot less as there is little on offer in this part of the world but in good years the late summer "Honeydew (July/August)" honey can produce a very good harvest as we have so much forest aound.

Weird that bees in cities probably produce more honey in the summer (lMay/June) than those out in the sticks - modern day farming or rather modern day consumer demand for more and cheaper. Farmers produce what we consumers want. An attempt this week to force through a German wide requirement for all farmers to leave 10m strips of land alongside waterways free of fertilizer and slurry failed in parliament. Might have given some wild flowers a chance never mind the effect on the water quality.

This evening put supers on my two strong colonies. The other two haven't yet filled the ground floor!
