Through a lens darkly

Beetle mania

These iridescent beetles have been knocking about in my desk drawer for a while - we use them for outreach to get kids enthused about SCIENCE! The colour of their wing casings changes depending on which angle you look at them from. This is a property of the structures on the surface, which are only visible with electron microscopy.

Anyway, I thought I should have them shaking "hands" on my windowsill for today's blip. Hope you like them!
