Wound up in Wexford

Spean Praptos

We left Siem Reap this morning, and were driven down to Phnom Penh.  About 320k, it took some 6hrs on roads which were variable in nature, from dual carriageway to dirt track.  Though even the dual carriageway was used rather idiosyncratically by the Khmer.  Gaps in the central reservation are widely spaced, and it seems that if the left turn you want is between gaps, you come onto the opposite carriageway and drive down the left hand (theoretically the fast) lane, creating your own contraflow system!

We stopped off to admire Spean Praptos.  (Well worth following my link to read more about it).  I chose this picture as it feels more Cambodian - slightly neglected and overgrown.

Once booked in to our lovely hotel, we went out for the evening, to drop off some laundry and find a meal at the FCC.   Nice restaurant, but W was not impressed by the Amok - hardly any fish, and too "hot" - Khmer curries are not meant to be excessively hot, they reckon to add chilli afterwards "to taste".  Torrential thunderstorm whilst we were dining, which made up for not having been able to get a table by the window, as the diners there were exposed to the elements until the staff managed to close the blinds.
