Highgate Cemetery

Our main plan for the day was to visit Highgate Cemetery, one of the 'magnificent seven' cemeteries constructed in the Victorian era in response to the large death tolls in London. It's a truly beautiful and mysterious place, with some very interesting stories. The tour around the West part of the cemetery was definitely the highlight as our tour guide was so enthusiastic and really brought the place to life. It's also interesting to see how society and its approach to death has changed considerably between the construction of Highgate Cemetery to now, and it can be seen in simple things such as the decoration on a tombstone.

The weather was also lovely so we then decided to walk along Regent's Canal from Angel station to Broadway Market. Really lovely - the vibe on the canal was great with lots of bars and terraces but also canal boats with people on. I enjoy being able to see more of what living in London is like, rather than the extremely touristy parts of central London (not that there is anything wrong with that!)
