Part of my life

Today we were working on some of the boxes of my archived photography collection from the last 50 years. It is a mixed bag of 35mm slides and negs, plus a considerable number of 6 x 7cm large format transparencies and negatives.

Some have been in the boxes and files since the early 70s when they were taken in USA, UK, Europe and Australia. Paladian is going to scan in hi-res all of this historic collection so that we will have it stored electronically. It will take us many months to catalog, scan and archive this lot.

When it has all been dealt with, the original photography archive and associated records and files will be given to the Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sport at the University of Texas at Austin.

The Stark Center is dedicated to acquiring and providing access to archival materials in the fields of physical culture and sports. Also in supporting and conducting research in disciplines concerned with health and high performance, and preserving the history of physical culture and sports.

The Todds who run the Stark first approached me some years ago asking if I might leave my  photography archive, records and files to them. It was my pleasure to agree, and now the giant task of facilitating this is under way.

As a well known American photographer once said to me - 'Recording History is as important as making history'.
