Muddy Adventures!

Hair cut day

Hair cut time for the last ladies and gents of the farm for this year. The Kiwi's turn up with a special trailer which incorporate holding pens and fold down platforms which allow for three shearers to work consecutively. And boy they're fast!
Here you can see two shearers and one wool roller.
The lambs watched on as their Mums were shorn. Unfortunately one ewe died during the process. It's rare but not unheard of. It's the first time we've lost one during shearing (and we shear on average 800 a year). Sometimes their hearts just give out for virtually no reason, just a little shock or fright can do it.
Of course her lambs were mixed in with another 100 lambs so impossible to identify. Before you ask, no we didn't shear the dead ewe. That would be disrespectful.
We hoped that we'd identify the lambs in the coming days before they get to weak. But then amazingly this morning they managed to escape their field and find their way back to the shearing pen on their own. Looking for their mum. Sad but lucky. They've now been rehomed with a family who want to bottle rear them.
