If you can't beat them...

Gelt Woods.

We had a long list of things that needed to get done today.  So we started in Penrith, ticked three things off the list and headed for Carlisle.  We stopped for a picnic lunch in a little car park beside a stream near one of Cumbria Wildlife Trust's reserves.

The on into Carlisle where we ticked another three things off  the list and learned some rather sad news about the wife of a friend.  Then on we went to our favourite garden centre to follow up a free offer which had arrived in the post and buy this years annual herds for our herb garden.

After that we decided to detour by the RSPB reserve at Gelt.  The main part of the is quite some way from the woods but the woods make a very pleasant walk and some good photo opportunities.  By the time we got there the day had darkened considerably but off we set.  We had hardly gone 100 yards when it began to rain, deciding discretion is the better part of valour we headed back to the car.  SO of the very few shot I took this is the path leading from the car park into the woods.
