A Doric A-Z: K revisited

Doric, the dialect spoken in the North-East of Scotland is rich in words and phrases associated with the land and the sea.  This part of an occasional series of Doric words and phrase.

KNEIP ON: To go energetically

cloods begin to gether A Doric poem by John C Milne

Cloods begin to gether,
Mowdie smells the rain,
Wi' snoot snoot and fit thegither
He's kneipen on again.

Clouds begin to gather,
Mole smells the rain,
With snout and foot together
He's going on energetically.

John C Milne (1897-1962) was born on a Buchan farm and became a distinguished scholar taking three First Class degrees at Aberdeen University in English and Moral Philosophy, in Mental Philosophy and in Geography. His working life was spent instructing at the Aberdeen College of Education where he was the Master of Method. Mrs Talpa had the pleasure of being taught by him towards the end of his career. An appropriate poem, Talpa being the generic name of the mole.

I've also included the colour version using Blip's new gizmo.
