Sketchbook #24: The Joker by Jim Murray

Another blast from the past: this is Batman's arch enemy the Joker, as sketched by great British artist Jim Murray. Proud to say I gave Jim his first professional commissions. Within a few years he was painting the Judge Dredd/Batman crossover book Die Laughing, stepping into the mighty shoes of Glenn Fabry.

Sadly, Jim left comics to work in computer games design - but he does return sometimes. Most recently he painted the lush graphic novel Drowntown, written by Robbie Morrison. [Indeed, I interviewed both creators at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in 2013 - and captured them here on Blipfoto.
