Mars Hill Cafe

Mars Hill Cafe is a community space (it has been described as the soul of Parramatta) where musicians, artists and people that don't fit into the mainstream community feel at home.  It also caters for the normal coffee drinker.  Most Sundays Lorraine and I meet with a group of Christians at Mars Hill Cafe.  The group is made of people who don't really fit into traditional Sunday Church.

The cafe has been running for around fourteen years and is the kind of place that is never going to be a roaring commercial success but in recent times with huge developments going on across the street and the blocking of passing pedestrian trade due to an upgrade to the Church Street Bridge, the cafe has been unable to continue paying the high rent. As a result, unless something miraculous happens, the cafe will need to close.

The interesting thing is that the cafe where I volunteer in Glebe, and a somewhat similar type of place, has also confronted a similar crisis.  Fortunately for the cafe in Glebe it has been taken over, at least in the short-term by another community group.

I had difficulties accessing a number of websites, including blip, so have been delayed in uploading and viewing your images.
