The old bank

This isn't a particularly fine example but I love the way you can look down any old high street a spot which buildings were the banks. Most of them were built in this lovely cream sandstone and feature intricate mouldings round the doorway. I suppose they were a testament to the banks power and wealth at the time.
This one celebrates the years 1796 to 1896 of Ashby & Co Bank. I cant find anything about that bank except that it was still around in 1905 and at some point was taken over by Barclays. So the same business has been going on in the same building for 220 years. It may be a little scruffy but it has 'heart'.

My local Barclays has just been revamped and now contains lots of glass, marble tiles and machines but only one bank clerk to talk to if you have a problem. The queue for that clerk is always long whilst most of the machines remain untouched.
I know which I prefer.
