Update from IMPACT #Nepal in Kathmandu

We are so relieved that all our IMPACT Nepal colleagues are safe and well. They reiterated what is being said on the news but say the situation is worse than you can imagine and they are still having aftershocks. Here is the latest from Dr Rakesh (IMPACT Nepal's chairman in Kathmandu):

The situation in Kathmandu is bad. People are really scared and in shock.

We are still experiencing tremors, last one at 4:30am this morning, which was severe. Almost all the people in Kathmandu are sleeping in open grounds and spaces. Almost all shops are closed, home supplies are scarce and the streets are full of people needing medical treatment.
The situation outside of Kathmandu is much worse. The media and relief has not reached these places.

IMPACT Nepal will focus efforts in Dhuwakot in Dhading District, close to the epicentre, three hours drive east of Kathmandu. We have worked here for many years and have local volunteers to help.

IMPACT’s mobile operating tent will be used to treat and operate the injured. But we need funds IMMEDIATELY so we can distribute:

* Simple tents - at least 600 to 700 tents to house families. It is raining heavily at the moment. We can also use canvas and plastic sheeting to make shelters with help of local villagers. We need ropes, nails to hold the shelters to the ground, hammers, scissors and knives
* Medicines and surgical supplies
* Blankets and mattresses
* Larger tents to be used for outpatient clinics
* Food (all kinds), milk powder, drinking water and water purification tablets
* Simple cooking stoves
* Cooking/kitchen utensils

Thank you for standing with us in solidarity.
