Blood Drive

Every year the National Honor Society at my school hosts a blood drive.  I’ve been in National Honor Society for two years, so this is the second blood drive that I have been a part of.  The theme for this year’s drive was Dr. Seuss.  There were a lot of neat things that we could do with this theme because of all the different stories he told and bright colors he used.  The blood drive took place in the gym.  This is where the people from the American Red Cross set up their beds and all of their equipment.  We lined the entrance to the gym with Truffula trees from The Lorax, and a cut out picture of the Lorax himself.  We used tissue paper and streamers to make the trees.  We made a banner that hung in the gym that said “Oh, the people you’ll save!” and we had Dr. Seuss hats hanging around the banner.  Each hat had a donor’s signature on it.  The donors could pick between two favors, a bright colored swirly lollipop or a Dr. Seuss pen.  Everyone made bright colored and fun treats for the canteen.  There was rainbow cupcakes, rainbow fudge, red and white Jell-O cups, Nutter Butters that were decorated to look like the Lorax, and so much more.  The blood drive was a success and we even collected more units than our goal! This is a picture of two of my friends who donated blood.
