FEMALE BROWN HEADED COWBIRD

the Cowbird is an amazing bird, not well liked. She is a parasite.....she lays eyes in the nest of other birds.

The story is that the cowbirds adapted to their environment. They lived on the prairies with the buffalo who kicked up insects out of the soil as they roamed the plains. The cowbirds followed the herds so they had to find a way to lay their eggs. They layed eggs in the nests of other songbirds. Their eggs hatched faster than the host eggs and therefore, their eggs got the most food, grew faster and thrived. Oftentimes, the cowbird would throw some eggs out of the host nest to make more room for their eggs. The host birds do not recognize that there was a parasite egg in the nest.
