Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

Interesting times and a happy time.

In a speech in Cape Town in June 1966, John F. Kennedy said:

There is a Chinese curse which says 'May he live in interesting times.' Like it or not we live in interesting times. They are times of danger and uncertainty; but they are also more open to the creative energy of men than any other time in history.

I'm rather afraid that we are still living in interesting times!

On a happier note, today is the 175th anniversary of the issue of the World's first postage stamp, the British Penny Black. Ironically today is also the day that they have closed down our village post office!

I still remember the great joy of buying my Penny Black when I was still in short trousers! You can see it here, together with a Penny Red and a Twopenny Blue. Happy days!
