Breedon Priory Church

The church of St Mary and St Hardulph on the summit of Breedon Hill, NW Leicestershire, is a Grade 1 listed building. An Iron Age fort was built on the hill at least 100 years BCE. A Saxon Benedictine monastery was established here  c.AD678. Carvings and stonework from that church have been incorporated into the present church which is sited on top of the former Priory church which was built when land was given to Augustinian monks in 1144 AD.

I came here with Basil this morning to take photos for a 12 by 12 project, and ended up completely changing my mind about which photos to include, forswearing the Anglo Saxon carvings in favour of contrasts between light and dark. Ah well.

A bit of luck that the cherry blossom was out. Makes a nice frame for the church. Look carefully and you should spot Basil sitting down.
