Views of Musselburgh, Scotland

Musselburgh is an unpretentious, medium- sized town on the south bank of the Firth of Forth, some six miles to the east of Edinburgh's city centre.

During Roman times the town was inhabited, and there was a garrison to protect its bridge over the River Esk, an important crossing point on the coastal road to Edinburgh.

High Street and Tolbooth.  Just to the left of the Tolbooth is the town museum, small but providing an impressive introduction to the town and its chequered history.

Housed in the right end of the Tolbooth is a good informal restaurant.  Its breaded haddock and chips was the best "fish supper" I have yet tasted; I must assume that the haddock had jumped straight from the boat and into the pan.

View westwards towards Edinburgh.  The skyline is dominated by the exuberant mass of Arthur's Seat, to its right can be seen the memorials on the rather diminutive-looking Calton Hill.  The cloud formations were an unexpected bonus.
