Origin of a place name

This statue is of St Bega, an Irish princess, who sometime between the years 600 to  900 left Ireland to avoid marrying a man her father had chosen, and lived a life as a hermit, tending to the local population.
And the place named after her? St Bees, Cumbria.
She must have been extremely brave or foolish if she sailed across the Irish sea in a coracle like the one depicted in the statue!
