throw again … go back 2 squares

It’s one of these days when every choice made is a wrong one.

We’re off to Manchester to see Ma-in-law.  We decide to go the pretty way; instead of our usual route via the M6, we decide to head up the M1 and then cross the Peak District to Manchester.  We might get lucky with a blip-opportunity up in the hills.

But it doesn’t work out that way.  Warned of an accident and long delays some way ahead, we decide to go off-piste and head into that area of the map often labelled - here there be dragons.

We’re confronted by choice after choice - and every bifurcation of our intended route throws up delay upon delay.  Every turn is a wrong turn.  And even when we arrive at our destination, we still get it wrong.

We’re meeting at the home of Anniemay’s niece.  I pull into the drive of No 9.  “No, No it’s number 7”.  I reverse swiftly before the occupants notice and drive into No 7.  We get out; “No - it is number 9”.  We jump back in ….. you get the picture.

And a journey that usually takes less then three hours ends up taking over five.
