Coiled spring tree

This tree we inherited in our garden has wonderful coiled spring like growth...in spring. I've not been able to identify it - can anyone help? It almost competes for attention with all the wonderful cherry and crab apple blossom for a few weeks. Anyway...a suitable image for today with all the pent-up tension of the election and a nice mix of green and red with a touch of yellow, but no blue in sight!
