A Reflection of State

Yesterday we saw a historical moment in Scottish Politics after an “electoral tsunami” swept SNP into power, wiping out the Labour Party’s previously dominant presence north of the border at a single stroke.

Nicola Sturgeon’s party won 56 of Scotland’s 59 Westminster seats, exceeding most expectations as its candidates recorded huge swings over their Labour rivals throughout the night.

The Conservatives have made gains in England and Wales and have secured 331 seats in the Commons, giving them a slender majority of 12 seats.

Labour ended with 232 seats and leader Ed Miliband said he would stand down, saying his party must "rebuild" with a new leader.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has also said he will quit, with his party reduced from 57 to eight MPs.
