Fun Run 2015

5years 201days

This day each year is rapidly becoming one of my favourite "annual events". The town fun run. Today has been a day that we have both loved. Such a lovely day with my girl. We got up at a fairly decent time. We selected outfits, "numbered up" (discovering that this year she had the same number as her first ever race!) and cycled off to the start of the 2015 Fun Run. She had a great time at the start, cuddling the town mascot who she's not been keen on before and talking to people who now recognise her as a regular! She lined up full of smiles and confidence at the start. She wasn't intimidated by the big kids and was bouncing as she waited to go. She set off at quite a pace. And she held it. Her first year, I was at just about a gentle jog, with a time of 19minutes. Last year, it was a steady run that equated to a 15min 2km. This year, her pace was much faster. I am looking forward to seeing the official results! My timing put her at about 12:30. She passed kids three times her age (we perhaps need to work at her volume control on commenting in those situations!) and didnt let up her pace. She pulled off a sprint finish without any encouragement from me - the crowd cheering and seeing final corner was enough for her. A brilliant run from a tiny miss who didn't stop grinning the whole way round.

At the finish, she put her medal on proudly, waited for her lovely friend who we enjoy the event with each year and then changed into a tutu. As you do. We walked to the start of the main 10k race to cheer on friends. We watched every runner through then headed into town for some lunch and to watch the runners in as they approached the finish. The girls clapped and cheered for every single runner and had a glorious time in the sun.

We then let the girls run the last 100m of the race course and over the official finish line - where they were shepherded towards the fruit boxes! Such happy young ladies. We said goodbye to our friends and walked back to the race HQ to collect our bikes. She had a party to go to! And a lovely party it was too. One of her friends from ballet turned 5 today so we got a nice chance to spend time with friends from dance and muck in with a great fun party. After which we cycled home. As if we hadn't done enough exercise, she decided to add an extra loop to our cycle ride before we headed home. We stopped by to show our neighbour friend the new medal (a nice one this year!) She wrote a sweet piece for school about the run and how much she loves doing it.

Today she has:
Cycled 8km
Run 2km
Walked 2km
Bounced on the bed approx 100 times
Only just made it into jammies before falling asleep after her bath
