Mieres del Camino

Went out today to the Town of Mieres with a bunch of friends for a lunch of spit-roast lamb. Mieres is one of the main towns in the mining valleys of Asturias. The centre of town was bustling, with the market open and bars and restaurants crowded. I'm not very familiar with Mieres, other than passing it on the motorway. Most times when passing it is at least overcast if not raining. Today however it wasn't just the lamb being roasted but us as well, at about 28 degrees.. The town is surrounded by hills and mountains in whichever direction you look, as in the photo. This shelters it from the wind, which seems to make the heat more intense. After taking in a few bars and a few glasses of cider we went to the bar on the edge of town where lunch awaited (extra photo). Back to Gijón afterwards where it was overcast and ten degrees cooler.
