Candles in the rain

This looks rather more cheerful than the rest of the day = the moment when we lit the candles that we had thought we wouldn't be wanting again until Autumn and I saw the illusion that there were flames burning in the chimney pot outside where my thyme plant grows.

Today has been dreary in the extreme, with the rain washing down the windows from a uniformly grey sky. It was a relief when it began to grow dark and we could forget how miserable it looked.
