Naked Shoe

Thought I might contribute something slightly risque. This is one of a set of sculptures in the Salamanca area of Madrid, called Shoe Street Art. The giant shoes are identical in shape, but each is decorated by an individual artist. This one, by Maria Mari Murga is titled "Ellos a tues pies" (men at your feet).

Salamanca is, like many of Madrid's suburbs, entertaining in its own special way. It is full of designer shops from all the big international names, but what is entertaining is the dress sense of the customers, to say nothing of the snooty attitudes of the staff when confronted by two mere holidaymakers.

Plans to go see some raw flamenco that evening in a seedy bar on the other side of town had to be abandoned owing to onset of the infamous Spanish holiday tummy. Damn!
