mentor and gentle man...

...is Cedric.
Being in this studio brought back many, many happy memories of life drawing classes surrounded by ochre walls, paintings, books and his always intriguing drawing table stocked with pens, inks, paints and fabrics.

C is a poet and artist, writer and illustrator and Walkley Award winning (top gong here) cartoonist. Today I spent a wonderful couple of hours in C and P's wooden frame house where red features as THE colour of choice and is an Aladdin's cave of style and beauty.

Their story is extraordinary.
Both born in Burma, C and his family and many others walked for two months through northern Burma to India and refuge as Japanese forces
moved through the country.
P and her family escaped by boat and many years later they met and eventually married here in Western Australia!

It was such a thrill to spend time with them again and I'm forever grateful to Ced for his tutelage and encouragement in my drawing endeavours.
