It's Grim Up North

Loch Dunvegan

Today G met the crofter whose great grandmother lived in the cottage we are renting. When it last came up for sale he tried to buy it, because he still holds the land around it, but couldn't afford it. We are renting from young Edinburgh academics who probably can't afford to buy in Edinburgh.....

However, the present owners did change the name of the cottage.( It was named after the crofter's great grandmother.) I think that's a shame. The cottage has been here longer than they have and will be here when they've gone. It isn't necessary to control and put your mark on everything that passes through your life.

We are allowed the feed the piggies. The crofter par-boils their food for them, but says that we don't have to. I think a bit of raw veg will be good for their teeth.
