Takeaway

I bought four slices of cake for my friend's birthday.

In the first few days of my time in the UK, I often heard people say take away, which seemed strange to me then as I was sure, in Japan, I had used some different phrase which I couldn't remember immediately though (strangely enough, it took me a long time to remember the phrase, take out, which actually is of American English). Now more than half a year having passed since I came to the UK, it's rather take out which might sound strange to me. It's amazing what habit can do.
