Southsea to Ryde (Isle ofWight) Hovercraft.

As it was a sunny day, we thought we would take a walk along Southsea seafront having not been there for quite sometime. We never seem to get to the Southsea seafront although it is on our doorstep!.

The actual landing for the hovercraft is on the seafront open for everyone to view but at a fenced off distance though. I took quite a few shots of of this as it arrived, but somehow lacked the action I wanted to catch, so in this shot it is just leaving having hovered onto the seawater and then the pilot accelerates to full speed to Ryde. All the spray and draught ensues.

It is a known fact that the Solent is the most expensive bit of water to cross, either by car ferry or the hovercraft. It is about half an hour on the Ferry but on the Hovercraft it is only 10 minutes. I believe the cost of a ticket on the hovercraft is about £12 - £15 per person each way!! Ouch.

I have also put in the 'Extras' two shots, one of which is an old classic Bugatti car, parked along the front, could not resist a shot of that.
Looking further out, the other shot is of Spitbank Fort, which was use as a store for weapons and shells during the war, but now is a Hotel, yes you did read it as Hotel, where access is either by boat or Helicopter.
A huge amount of money has been spent on it to restore it.
Never been there myself !!

Sorry I have not being commenting but have been busy at work.Hope to catch up asap.

Enjoy and take care.
