An Ikonic Adventure

Ikon Brisbane Backyard Blitz

The day to end a month full of suspense and excitement.

A month ago Lesley threw down a massive challenge for us, something for us to strive towards as individuals, as a company, as a team and as Ikon Brisbane. A definitive line in the sand for us to finally reach, almost 6 short and tough months after officially launching.

If we reached our goal, an afternoon of surprise awaited us. It was never going to be easy and our path was shadowed by challenges. What could have been a scene from the movie 300, we all stepped up to the plate as a team and not only reached but blasted past that line in the sand.

Suspense was high in the week leading up to Thursday and the only hint we had was that we had to be prepared to get 'moist and dirty'. Paintball? Filming an episode of Wipeout? Strip clubs?

Yet we jumped in a cab only to arrive at our new office. The internal skeleton almost complete, workmen everywhere and the outside and the beer garden- a bomb site. Shrapnel in the form of leaves, seeds and palm fronds scattered everywhere, layer upon layer, rotting in the moistness of it all, yearning some hard-work and a little bit of TLC. Yet still a very exciting glimpse into what is going to be the future of our company, and of our home. The place was in dire need of a face lift. So after decorating our suits (as seen in the picture) we went Backyard Blitz on the joint.

There were a few very memorable moments.

- Dan Johns, our Ikon CEO was up to help out and it was great to see him and Lesley getting down and dirty.
- Chris took one for the team and started siphoning the fountain, he sucked back a few mosquito wrigglers in the process.
- Sharon provided the plants from her parent's house and somehow didn't even make a dint in their garden.
- Shelley taught new recruit/bub Owen who was strapped to her chest a thing or two about gardening. He was very well behaved.

After an afternoon flooded ironically with more hard work, champagne and beers, the true potential of the beer garden was revealed. An amazing transformation and a great sign of what is to come in the future.

The night was followed by a few relaxing drinks, some karaoke, shots and an average dinner at a few of the local pubs surrounding the new office- not giving anything away.

It was truly a great afternoon and a lot of fun. It looks like we will be in the new office very soon.
