Heathland tree

This tree is situated on the Pebblebed Heathland of Woodbury Common.  Its an important conservation area as due to the rarity of the habitats and species found on the lowland heaths.  The main core of the Pebblebed heaths were notified as Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) between 1952 and 1986, as a nationally important example of Atlantic-climate lowland heathland supporting a wide diversity of heathland-associated communities and important populations of birds and invertebrates.  See link for more information: pebblebed heath

I'm looking forward to seeing how the area changes throughout the seasons and for the heather to flower.  On our walk over the commons we spotted several stonechats and numerous butterflies including peacock, red admiral and several we have yet to identify (large yellow, white and brown ones).
