The Tailor of Taste

Montague Burton founded his chain of menswear shops in 1903 in Chesterfield. By 1929 it was listed on the Stock Exchange with 400 stores factories and mills. By the time Montague died in 1952, Burtons was the largest multiple tailor in the world.
The building that carries this splendid reminder of the Burton name is now the entrance to the Tunbridge Wells shopping centre and the town no longer has a Burtons store.
