Tigers Do Track

This evening I had the pleasure of attending a track training session put on by Nike and run by Helen Clitheroe, Team GB athlete and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist.

I have to say that Nike put a lot of money into running free events for runners. Firstly there are the free run clubs that take place every week in their stores across London. I attend the one at Westfield Stratford on Thursday evenings and they also run another on Monday nights.

Today's track event is the second of ongoing sessions at Mile End Stadium.

Helen took us through warm up drills and a light jog round the track and then it was on to the main event, 3 x 4 200m sprints.

We were split into 3 groups, each with their own Nike pacer. I was in the middle group and we set off second.

200m, rest 60 secs
200m, rest 60 secs
200m, rest 60 secs
200m, rest 60 secs

After a few mins rest we repeated the whole thing again, and then again.!

The objective was to produce consistent 200m splits so pacing, rather than going flat out, was key. Most of my splits were in the 37-39 sec range; not fast for 1 off 200m but an ok average I think for 12.

A great session. Helen is a wonderful coach and really approachable; even stopping to have this group picture taken with all the E20 Tigers from Stratford that had attended.

I hope to sign up for more of these sessions in the future.
