River Morar

When the tide goes out a clear bottomed sandy channel of fresh water remains running a way out in the middle of this expansive stretch of silvery beach. It is the River Morar, the shortest river in Scotland. When the tide comes in (as in the image) then it becomes even shorter. It drains the inland loch of the same name. Loch Morar also has claims to a monster and is the deepest loch in Scotland.
On the next beach just round the corner from here one of the key scenes in the movie Local Hero was filmed, a meeting between an astronomy obsessed Burt Lancaster, an oil tycoon who has just flown in from the states to strike up a deal, and Fulton MacKay a very wise old worthy who lived on the beach.
It is a brilliant film with a great sound track.
