Early dismissal

Today we had some thunderstorms and the power at the office went off a few times and then the lights went out in a part of the office. We couldn't turn our computers on, because every time we did, the power went down again. So we turned everything off and were waiting for the lights to come back on. Then we heard a lot of police cars and fire trucks and they went to an office building across from our office. We couldn't really see what was going on because the trees were blocking our view, but we thought there was a fire. After a while we could even smell  a fire or at least something like melting plastic.
The guy from the office next door came to our office and said he thought it was in our own office building and we told him it was probably from across the road. Within minutes the fire alarm in our building went off, so we grabbed our stuff and went outside.
Fire trucks and police cars were already turning into our office parking lot. We didn't see any fire or smoke, but everyone was told to stay away from the building. I went to my car and called my boss to let him know what was happening. He told me and my colleague to go home, so we did. I'm not sure what caused the fire alarm to go off, but I was happy with the early dismissal today.
Hopefully everything will be back to normal again when we come in tomorrow.
