I scream

After yesterdays 30°C scorcher, we were told to hold on tight for storms in the night. Didn't happen luckily and today started out as yesterday ended, After lunch thought I would pop in to Ottobeuren to get a few basics as tomorrow is a public holiday in Germany.

As we descended the hill in to the town, the dark clouds were to be seen. I had left a full clothes line out and not closed all the windows at home! Still took the risk and went for a walk with the dogs alongside the river south of the town. We ended up meeting a new Border Collie (second this week) and another one we know well and who even Luna gets on very well with. During the walk it tried to drizzle but failed. Also heard the abbey bells having a real good turn out and thought there must be something going on, so o the way back stopped off at the market place.

I don't really like the market place irself. The buildings around it are a nice frame but the rest is bland. The "industrial revolution" looking water feature is horrible (as PurbeckDavid can confirm). The only & last revolution which this area saw was the peasants revolt of 1525 and that failed. (Actually meant to have some connection to Father Kneipp and his water treatment. Would be far more appropriate to erect another Kneipp "Stepping/Treading/Paddling" unit which are so prominent in the area - good for the health and no doubt a source of fun for passers by.

The "stream" running down to the water feature is boring and wonderfully dangerous particularly in winter to those not acquainted with the town. Firebrigade often called out to pull out cars who didn't see it under the snow. Today it did allow Flash to cool off a bit. The tables & chairs on the left belong to Pedro's Eiscafe, a much loved ice cream producer (organic milk from local farmer). I even succumbed, the last ice cream I had here was in August with the grandchildren. However then spotted a very long queue. With darkening clouds and the supermarket still to do, abandoned the treat.

Milk & sugar loaded and back home. Drizzle kept on threatening but didn't manage more than 30 seconds.

However in the night it started in the distance and it rained a lot. Not far north of here near Augsburg a tornado did quite a bit of damage but luckily no deaths.

(PS The "I scream" title is something from my past probably around 1962. In Trinidad where I was born, a british born businessmen started a grocery in 1912. Mr Canning went on to open the first self service supermarket, had the Coca Cola franchise and was heavily in to dairy products including "Canning's Ice Cream". The radio ad from back then was "I scream, you scream, we all scream for Cannings Ice Cream". Always say this slogan to myself when ice cream nentioned.
