Baby Diamondback

The diamondback terrapin, Maryland’s official state reptile, is an aquatic turtle with distinctive diamond-shaped rings covering its shell. It lives in and around the Chesapeake Bay’s brackish tidal waters, including rivers and marshes.

The diamondbacks have hatched! Found this little guy crawling near our back door. Thankfully we cut our yard yesterday. Last year we found six terrapins in the same area. Not sure if they crawled off already or if they haven't all hatched yet. Anyway each spring day brings another joy to behold!
