Tools As Art

This is a magnificent and elegant display of every possible woodworking and workshop tool, at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in Manhattan. The museum is part of the Smithsonian Institution based in Washington, and the display is the centerpiece of a fascinating and wide-ranging exhibition entitled "Tools: Extending Our Reach."  (It closes in ten days.)

The museum underwent a multiyear renovation and redesign, reopening last December.  It's housed in a large mansion built by Andrew Carnegie around 1900, and in its new guise it is simply wonderful.  The main exhibition (through November) is "How Posters Work"--it is superb.  If you visit Manhattan and have even a slight interest in design, visit this museum--you will be fascinated.
