Fred & Andy

Colourful fishing nets

We have an Indian family next door with a rather spoilt child who screams a lot. The strange American resident we mentioned previously decides to voice his concerns about the family dynamics and asks our opinion is his not very subtle and loud way. Andy disappears and Fred manages to get away eventually too ... we hope the family haven't heard him. The family are in fact lovely and are going snorkelling that morning and ask us to join them. We were going to go but morning soon turns into lunch time so we end up giving it a miss although it's there first time and they come back saying how fantastic it was.

As we wander up the beach we see these amazing multi coloured fishing nets in a boat. Later, the fishermen are pulling one in. They are massive and its hard work. Andy helps for a while, as do other tourists. We then go for another run and a swim before heading back and finally they haul the last of the nets out about an hour later. They have a good catch but have unfortunately have also netted a large turtle. One of their fishermen goes to get the turtle out of the net and puts it on the sand near the waters edge. The tourists go mad for a photo so the fisherman stands on it to stop it going further and hauls it up by its front flippers for tourist photographs ... there are iPhones everywhere ... It's just horrible. It makes us angry but here's nothing we can do. It's awful that they catch turtles anyway but they were going to release it immediately if it hadn't been for idiots wanting photos of the poor thing. It was released shortly afterwards our neighbours, Julia and Thomas tell us.

We have a great home cooked fish curry made by the ladies at our huts and served on our terrace then we have a beer and a chat with our very nice new neighbours.
