Chapel in the hills

We stopped for lunch today at a deserted monastery in the hills above Kaliviani, at the foot of the Gramvousa peninsula. The tiny chapel appeared to be locked, but two turns of the massive iron key let me into this magical place. I had five minutes alone with the icons and the metal tokens of gratitude for prayer answered.

Outside, we shooed away the goats that were trying to follow us in, shut the gate carefully and hiked on, our shadows tiny in the early afternoon sun.

Crazy - but in a good way.
