Portraiture

A day in a studio taking some photos of friends and their families. I was using it as an opportunity to try and get to grips with some of the aspects of family portraiture.

Things I have picked up

Working with children is hard, but rewarding when you do get a good picture.

You need to be selective with what toys they have as what can seem like a good idea as a prop becomes more of a distraction.

Looking straight down on the subjects laying down really doesn't work.

Forget family hierarchy, order people by height for the best composition, with height building into the middle.

Those candid moments in posed pictures look good and break things up a bit.
