Sgwarnog: In the Field

Longhorn

The strong wind out on the moor didn't bode well for the annual Bradford Urban Wildlife Group Green Hairstreak butterfly walk, but the five of us that attended found one sheltered spot where they were active, and those that hadn't seen them before were pleased.

On my way back home I detoured to the east side of the moor where a few Common Heath moths were being blown about and in the relative calm of Moorside, St. Mark's flies were swarming around with their long dangling legs.

In amongst them were several of these fairy longhorns, one of the Adela moths (probably Adela reamurella) with their impressive long white antennae.

Not bad for a blustery day.
