A Room for London

There's a boat on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall. A quirky one-bed writing retreat that can be booked for a single night by the public throughout 2012. Apparently. It's a project called 'A Room for London'. There's also some sort of hanging garden affair going on beneath it.

All of which was observed from the South Bank Centre this lunchtime, when I met Sarah Salway to plan the Arvon course we're running in November. Our students will be retreating with us to Ted Hughes's old house in Heptonstall rather than a precarious rooftop-based riverboat. Much more civilized.
