Forest cottage

This is the cottage where I was staying. It was quite difficult to get a good photo as the light was against me and I wanted to show the detail, which was lost when i stepped too far back. So I have stitched together a couple of pictures and this is the result. You can see the grass roof which is very typical and the entire house is made out of complete logs with no cladding or insulation inside but somehow it keeps very warm. To the right of the main door you can see a square object against the wall - this is a table and can be pulled out during the summer, a bit like a gate-leg table. Inside the cottage the doors are all covered in painted murals and everywhere there are various forms of fascinating old paraphernalia, like wooden cheese presses, wooden snow shoes for horses, a stuffed pine marten which had been shot by the owner, old skis and numerous knives and other tools used in days gone by. To the left of the cottage spreads a huge lake, covered in ice at the moment. I could have easily stayed here for months.
